As I write the leaves are changing colors, the days are getting cooler and fall is just around the corner. September 1st marks opening day of Colorado’s small game hunting seasons, so for those that enjoy the pursuit of upland birds and waterfowl mixed in with a little fly fishing the opportunity to
pull off the cast and blast is almost here! An abundance of unique upland birds can be hunted during Colorado’s early season. Sharp Tailed Grouse, Blue Grouse, Sage Grouse and White Tailed Ptarmigan can all be found in abundant numbers along Colorado’s mountainous regions. Most of these birds are found at the sage and aspen interface in both the foothills and high peaks alongside some great high country creeks and lakes.
So this fall be sure and buy your Colorado combo hunting/fishing license and head to the hills with your favorite hunting dog and fly rod. I for one can’t think of a better time to be in the woods than September and October.
