Last Saturday Denver's Oriental Theater played host to hundreds of fly fishing enthusiasts as the Fly Fishing Film Tour sold out both the 5 o'clock and 8 o'clock shows. The Fly Fishing Film Tour brings with it a showcase of the best independent fly fishing films each year. This year the tour seemed to be geared more toward Steelhead and Saltwater fishing in its list of film highlights. There were however several trout clips, including the Colorado made "In the Land of Cutthroats." And with tour sponsors including companies like Costa Del Mar, Korkers, Scientific Anglers, Patagonia, Sage and even local fly shop Trout's Fly Fishing it was sure to be a hit with the Denver fly fishing crowd.
As with any compilation of films, there were some that appeared to be stronger than others with better cinematography, editing, music, etc...but I find it hard to say that I didn't like any particular one. After all, they were all about fly angling around the world. Some of my favorites included "Off The Grid," "Metalhead," "High In The Lowlands," and "Heads Or Tails." I look forward to them all being available in full feature length later this year.
The Tour is long gone from Colorado by now but some of the film clips are actually still available for viewing on the Film Tour website. Also, be sure to check out the schedule page to see when they are coming your way and to get your tickets online so you are not left out in the cold.
The Fly Fishing Film Tour is sure to get your heart pumping, and excited about hitting the water no matter what species you target on the fly.
